If you are reading this you were probably referred here by a link I tweeted in response to something you tweeted that was negative toward Glenn Beck. If that is the case, I hope you stick around long enough to consider my opinion.
For starters, let me see if I know what you think about Glenn Beck:
- You probably think he is a Republican mouthpiece.
- You can’t take him seriously because he sometimes cries when telling a story.
- You think he can’t be trusted because he is Mormon.
- You think he is an ass-hat and wonder how anyone can take him seriously.
Glenn Beck is not, as so many uninformed liberals say, a mouthpiece for the Republican party. He is frustrated with and tired of both parties. Forget what Olbermann, Stewart or Matthews have to say about Glenn: they are passionately biased and woefully misinformed, they are incapable of judging Beck objectively. And they are miffed that Beck is destroying them in the ratings. But that is not important.
As far as the Mormon thing goes, if you can’t take that he is Mormon, you are a religious bigot. Senators Harry Reid and Orrin Hatch are also Mormon. So is Barack Obama’s Ambassador to China, Jon Huntsman, Jr. Get over the Mormon thing, if you can’t you probably aren’t mature enough to deserve the privilege of voting in America.
And quit with the “crying” complaints. Beck cries. So what? Does this invalidate any of what he has to say, or are you too shallow to get past his passion and deep-seeded care for what he believes? It is so easy to focus on his delivery instead of his content. I think part of the reason America is so screwed up right now is that he general public has a misguided focus on appearance, it is concerned more about flash over substance. Perhaps the seriousness of our increasing national debt and diminishing national security will provide enough caffeine to snap America out of its politically castrated, uneducated stupor. If not, it may take another 9/11 (or worse) to smack American minds back into the proper mindset.
So, instead of making fun of Glenn’s crying, why not listen to him as he criticizes George Bush for his errors? (Yes, Beck has repeatedly slammed Republicans when needed.) Instead of getting defensive, try listening to why Beck is criticizing the current administration, instead of getting stuck on the fact that he is daring to question the unquestioned Obama in the first place?
At some point Obama voters will have to get over the fact that the voted for change, that they voted for “anyone but Bush,” and lo and behold they got exactly what they asked for. However, I think we can all agree that this change is far more severe than anything MSNBC or Katie Couric could ever imagine. What will it take to get liberals to open their eyes to the facts that are being legislated before our very eyes? If you understand basic math, if you can read, you have what it takes to become an informed citizen. Voting is a privilege that should be respected. An uninformed vote is a dangerous thing.
I am repeatedly stunned at the audacity Obama possesses (pun not intended), his ability to lie with a straight face to America is truly impressive. There are umpteen examples of Barack Obama’s flip flops and flat out lies. Yet, America still trusts him and the press refuses to do anything close to resembling investigative journalism.
Beck is the rising star of the talk sow circuit for a reason: he speaks the truth. And, he’s been doing so as a political commentator for almost a decade. He passionately believes in the greatness of America. He repeatedly encourages those that disagree with him to call or appear on his show. And that’s an important thing: If you truly believe what you say, wouldn’t you welcome and encourage as much debate as possible to prove your point and educate the masses? Of course you would. He’s not like Al Gore who refuses to allow debate on a topic he thinks is closed. Keith Olbermann refuses to engage anyone in meaningful discussion (I don’t think he’s capable of doing so), and Chris Matthews is only capable of cutting off and yelling over those that he disagrees with. That isn’t debate, it’s entertainment. Glenn Beck actually offers substantive conversation with people on both sides of the issues.
If you are still reading I thank you for your open mind. I welcome all opinions at this blog and approve all posts unless they are offensive or crude (try to keep it PG-13). Let me know your thoughts, and please consider watching an episode or two of Glenn’s show on FoxNews. You might find out that his points are quite valid and backed up by facts. He also welcomes opposing viewpoints and lets them speak (unlike many other hosts). Is Glenn a goofball? Of course he is… he repeatedly admits to that. Just try to get past the casual nature and his unique humor and consider the content, not the delivery. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. As we have seen in Barack Obama, it is important not to judge a book by its cover.
People really do need to stop concentrating on things like him crying and being mormon. However, this shouldn’t be done while also taking him seriously. The truth of the matter is Glenn Beck has one ethic and one ethic alone: What is good for Glenn Beck is good for the world. Here is a good article on his true nature : http://www.alternet.org/media/138476/is_glenn_beck_the_orson_welles_of_our_time/ .
I couldn’t agree with you more Paul. Glenn Beck is Libertarian who is a sceptic of the two party system. He’s a passionate patriot who loves this country. I Tivo his show every day. The people that chastise him don’t watch the show, read his books, or listen to him on the radio. They are mere lemmings that copy and paste sound bites provided to them from “the media”.
My advice to the Obama worshippers: Get your head out of your ass and grow some objective balls. Seriously, stop watching mindless Tv for on hour of your life and tune in to Glenn Beck. You just might learn something. How about just start being skeptical with out government? That would be a good start. Quit spending energy on making fun of the likes of Glenn Beck for it only makes you look like Prgressive numb-nut who takes two Obama pills every night before going to bed. WAKE UP!
-My two cents, you can keep the “change”.
Well, BostonRedneck, you’ve written a very good article which I just finished reading. You make your points saliently, but I think you are delusional, bitter and out of touch with reality. What are your takes on Matthews, Olbermann and Mahr? Are they in the same supposed vain of fake talking heads? Or are they patriots pointing out those crazy neo-cons?
Have you ever met Glenn Beck? What is your experience with him? I’ve met him three times, I’ve been an on-air caller twice, and I believe he is 100% sincere. You apparently have not gone through any truly trying times, anything that has humbled you so deeply that you are thankful for every day you have on earth. Glenn has, and so have I. His patriotism is sincere, as is his desire to be successful.
The fact that he works out of Manhattan is just stupid to comment on. Where else would you place a business with the goal of media success? He has been dedicated to his longtime staff and taken them with him while hiring more.
The fact that you think his tears are fake tells me all I need to know about you. I hope that you enjoy a life that doesn’t ever make you a cryer. Thanks for visiting and for posting.
Paul,
You’re probably referring to David Charles on your last comment because I wrote praise about Glenn Beck. I forgive you though.
