Look. We realize that most of you are in it for the power, the benefits and the prestige. Maybe you entered politics with the most noble of intentions, but the beltway mindset got the best of you. You won’t limit your perks by legislating term limits, so we are forced to deal with a largely uninformed electorate that votes based on charm, race, family tradition, or comedy skit.
America has had enough of your crap. Here is a list you can use to start making cuts.
Below is a list that I gathered from within our official budget. This is not something I copy/pasted, it took me less than an hour to generate. I’m sure you know where to find it. My hope is that perhaps any of the 25 items will generate staff discussion or motivate some of you to get off of your asses and get to work. You were elected for a reason, and until we see some legitimate budgetary action you are on a very, very short leash.
This list is not in any particular order. Now get to work.
- Dept. of Education Kill this useless $50.7B hinderance of an organization and let the states control their educational systems.
- Dept. of Energy ($16.7B)
- Recovery Act ($4.4B)
- Cut the hell out of
- Conservation/Land Management (currently $10.7B)
- Pollution control ($10B)
- Farm Income Stabilization ($17.7B)
- Economic and demographic statistics ($7.5B)
- FEMA ($4B)
- In general, the entire Educational and Social Services budget is massive and can be cut
- Education for the “Disadvantaged” ($15B), which is a separate category from
- “Special Education” ($12B)
- $43B in Housing assistance, $27B in Section 8 housing assistance alone.
- $83B for unemployment compensation. This needs to be cut big time. People need to get off their asses and find work. I moved my family 300 miles to find a new job, other people can do it.
- Another $80B for Food Stamps? Really? This can be cut.
- $172B in “Other Income Security” (I cringe when the government generalizes like this. Can you say waste?)
- $6B for the FBI, DEA, DHS, ICDE, etc. Bull. Consolidate and cut it.
- $11.4B for Federal litigitive and judicial? For what exactly?
- $26B for International Development and Humanitarian Assistance? Libs want our troops to come home, why not have our money come home too?
- $7.4B for “Global Health”
- $3.4B for “Economic Support Fund”
- $2B for “Multilateral development banks”
- $2B for the “Millennium Challenge Corporation”
- $2.3B for “Development Assistance”
- $8B for International Security Assistance (this is separate from the budget category for our military)
- $10.5B on Energy Conservation. What does the government know about conservation?
- $11.7B for “Tax Administration”. I believe this is the IRS. Flat Tax, nuke the IRS.
This list totals well over $600B in annual expenditures. Cut it in half and we are saving $3 trillion over the next ten years assuming that the programs dont increase in cost. The savings are even greater if they are projected to increase, which I’m sure they all are. Granted, not all of it can be eliminated, but there must be room for some of this to be drastically cut or eliminated. Get to work.
[...] stand the idea, which means she’s exactly right. I included this hindrance of a program in an article earlier this year when it was just a $50B program. I’m thankful that Bachmann has brought the idea into the [...]
