I guess the creative team over at Obama Campaign headquarters used an iPhone to come up with the new campaign slogan. Gotta be careful with that auto-correct feature.
Be sure to follow the #forward Twitter stream, it is already hijacked and hilarious, just like so many previous failed Obama attempts at Twitter.
“Failed policies of the past eight years…” is a phrase we’ve heard a lot lately. If you are an Obama supporter it is probably written on your bathroom mirror. It is such a strong undercurrent of the campaign that both Biden and Obama started their very first answers in their recent debates with this very phrase. Now, depending on what topic you are talking about you could be correct, the past eight years can be considered a failure. I think that with regard to government spending and border security the Bush administration has been a dismal failure. But our crashing economy is not due to Bush or his administration.
Team Obama has latched onto the term “deregulation” and liberals own control if it in political discussions. Yes, the housing crisis, the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are the result of too little regulation and control. But this environment was created not by President Bush, but by government backed pressure applied by Fannie Mac with origins to the CRA of 1977. But even if you don’t consider the CRA and actions of groups like ACORN significant factors, and you must bitterly cling to the term “deregulation,”please remember that it was Bill Clinton, not George Bush, who signed massive deregulation legislation in 1999. Democrats will not face the music, they are not capable of admitting their mistakes. And please note that I voted for Clinto in both elections. I’m speaking factually, not emotionally.
It was Republicans that suggested iin 2003 and 2005 that Fannie Mac needed stronger oversight. It was Democrats that fought against such legislation., In fact, it was Democrats saying as recently as last year that lending caps for Freddie Mac should be raised (a.k.a. deregulated even more). Now, in the midts of a market nosedive and a completely failed $700B bailout, it is these very same Democrats, including Barack Obama, that are screaming and pointing fingers at George Bush and Republicans. I guess it is this sort of blatant denial of reality that makes you a successful politicians. The hypocrisy of Democrats is mind bolggling to me. Yet, much to my significant dismay, I am honestly afraid that the Obama marketing machine is too powerful. Their massive text messaging network and repetitious brainwashing of charisma drunk lemmings has reached epic proportions. I’m fond of the phrase “beware of the power of stupid people in large numbers.” This election could be the ultimate case study of that concept.
The Obama campaign is whining about McCain ads and claiming that they are running a negative campaign. I would like them to explain exactly what they see as negative. My main point: Facts are not negative. They are statements of truth. Opinions can be positive or negative. Facts are not negative; running factual ads about Obama’s record and relationships are not positive or negative. They are just facts.
For example: Obama was picked by Bill Ayers to serve as the leader of the board of directors over the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. That’s a fact. Talking about it isn’t being negative. If you are a liberal activist and take pride in civil disobediance, you probably like that Obama and Ayers work together. If you happen to think that America is a good country and that blowing up buildings is bad, then you probably think that this relationship is a bad thing for a presidential candidate.
Another example: Assume that you remove all of Ayer’s militant behavior from the discussion. Pretend he didn’t blow up buildings or try to kill policemen and judges (along with their families). What was the goal of the CAC? It was founded by Ayers to shake up the educational system via radicalizing students through socilist teachings. These were the goals of the organization. I think that’s a bad thing, socialists probably think it’s great.
Let’s take this a step further. Despite writing two autobiographies, Obama never mentioned his five-year leadership position in either book. As a candidate one of his biggest perceived weaknesses is a lack of leadership experience. You’d think that he would want to defend himself and point out these five years in his adult life where he led an educationally-focused group trying to improve Chicago schools. Why isn’t he mentioning it at all? Is it the fact that a radical domestic terrorist led the group and picked Obama to serve as Chairman of the Board? Perhaps. But I think it is more than that. I think that Obama doesn’t talk about it because despite his five years of leadership and spending $100 million the group had no effect on the students that they tried to help. Five years, $100M, zero results. That’s not what I’m looking for in a president.
So the next time you hear a talking head or Obama supporter complaining that McCain’s campaign is dirty or negative, ask that person what it is that is negative. Facts are not positive or negative. They are the truth. Apparently Team Obama can’t handle the truth.
