I know… another shocking portrayal of the media as being liberal. ::gasp!::
I began to notice pre-event press coverage of the upcoming Stewart/Colbert “Restoring Sanity” and wondered how much coverage Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally received in advance. After all, Glenn Beck is a media sensation, he is the new Oprah when it comes to book endorsements, and his non-political rally was attended by roughly 300,000 people, if not more. The press all but ignored it until the day of the event, and after that most of the coverage was mockery, just like that of the Tea Party. “Dude, you are just paranoid. There is no collusion in the press. Relax, Obama has it under control.”
I beg to differ. Since I don’t have access to Lexus/Nexus I visited several popular news outlet web sites and searched. Here are my results:
Pre-Event Media Press Coverage |
|
| Search: Restoring Honor Beck (date range of Aug 1 – Aug 27) |
Search: Restoring Sanity Stewart (date range of Oct 1 – Oct 29) |
| Ny Times = 0 Washington Post = 0 Associated Press = 0 Reuters = 0 LA Times = 3 (all negative) NPR = 6 |
Ny Times = 2 Washington Times = 33 Associated Press = 1 Reuters = 1 La Times = 8 NPR = 30 |
No bias, nothing to see here. /sarc
I wonder how the attendance figures will compare. My guess is “Glenn Beck only had 67,000, Ed Schultz had more than that, and Stewart/Colbert easily had 500,000.”
Let me cut to the chase. Mel Gibson is friggin’ billionaire. He became famous because he was a handsome Aussie and starred in several cool action flicks. He has become a talented director and happened to produce the most successful religious movie in history. Great. He’s a Hollywood star. And he has a temper and a drinking problem.
So what.
I feel sorry for the man on a personal level. As the son of an alcoholic I know first hand that alcoholism is a horrible thing. He has many demons to face and he may never conquer them. That is sad. But why is his verbal abuse worthy of news saturation and airtime, especially given the enormity of our current political and economic climates?
- Unemployment in America (U-3) is currently 9.5%
- Real unemployment in America (U-6) is 16.5%
- Our southern border is becoming increasingly violent, yet Eric Holder insists in suing the Arizona for doing the work the federal government willfully refuses to do.
- Liberal protests and rallies often turn violent, yet conservatives are falsely labeled by media and politicians as racist and extremist.
- The Obama administration has failed miserably at handling the Gulf oil spill.
- Our national debt is more than $13 Trillion
- Unfunded US Government liabilities are more than $109 Trillion.
- Racial tension is on the rise, yet our president only engages in race discussions when whites are accused.
- Our enemies are increasing their technical capabilities and military strength while once great NASA has been relegated by our president to a Muslim-appeasing public relations role.
I could continue to point out the many problems we face in America, but I think my point is clear. We are fiddling as Rome is burning. Our president cares more about playing golf, meeting celebrities and spending time with athletes — his image — than he does about his job as the leader of the free world. Someone needs to slap him in the face and remind him that he is the PRESIDENT now. It’s time to stop campaigning, stop blaming others, and stop playing games. It’s bad enough that he sucks as a president, but he is doing a massive disservice to the black community by wasting his self-proclaimed historic and unprecedented achievement in November 2008. And before you start the spam and hate flames, I despise Barack Obama because he is 100% liberal, not because he is 50% black. Race has nothing to do with my opinions. This is about POLICY. This is about Obama’s political ADD. This is about a man neglecting his duties.
But does America care about any of this? Obviously not. We are more concerned with who’s “got talent,” who can create the most provocative music video, or who can generate the most vile rant. We have become a nation weened on “Beavis and Butthead,” “Jackass” and “Big Brother.” When a college teacher is unable to tell you what year our country declared its independence, you have serious problems as a community. Mel Gibson is wrestling with his demons, and the only reason we are talking about this is because we as a nation have the internet, YouTube and web sites that exist merely to expose personal strife for personal gain. America is sick and in need of some emergency surgery. Start with turning off the television and opening a book.
This is worth the view if not just for the tasty joy of watching this annoying liberal take a swipe at his political savior. The Bush bashing near the end is silly, and factually incorrect, but even this makes his point more poignant. Enjoy.
